Our Team

Alan Hinsley: - Chairman

I've been a member on the allotment in this second term, for about 10 years ?.I've held a number of committee positions, chair three times, and plot steward.

I speak to as many plotters as I can in my role ,listening to their ideas, plans and aspirations.

Offering support to those that need it .

I try and instil in people the benefits of allotments, and how lucky they are to be allowed the chance to work one.

The community aspect of the allotments is not everyone's cup of tea I know that.

But know that the society with a joint goal is stronger and more likely to be around in the future for those plotters that follow us

Julia Eves: - Plot Steward

Hi, I'm Julia the plot steward. I've had an allotment for around 10 years although, prior to a 10 year break to renovate our house, I worked a plot with Alan for about 8 years. I have always been interested in nature and gardening. I  helped my grandfather build a greenhouse when I was 9 and was often on his little plot in Mossley.

I am now retired but still very busy attending out Knit and Natter as often as possible.

I am responsible for plot inspections along with my deputies and also for monitoring our waiting list of local residents who have expressed a wish to have a plot

Ann Ward: - Trustee

I’ve enjoyed gardening from a very early age. My favourite plants are Dahlias, gladioli and sweet peas

I help to run the twice weekly sessions of the art and knit and natter groups on a Wednesday and Saturday as I also enjoy knitting and crocheting

Dana Haitham: Treasurer

Hi, my name is Dana and I’m the treasurer. I’ve had my plot since September 2024, and I have a huge passion for cooking, which naturally led me to growing my own food. I love experimenting with unusual varieties and using them to create new recipes.

I work as a Corporate ESG and Communications Senior Lead, and while my role focuses on creating positive impact in the areas we operate, being part of such a supportive and inspiring community through the allotment has given me a different kind of positivity—one that’s grounding, uplifting, and genuinely rewarding

Hocine Dahmane: - Social Secretary

I am a 68-year-old retired Industrial Chemist , passionate about growing things and always happy to be involved in our community. Currently I am our Society Secretary.

Peter Bickerdike: - Trustee

I am 82 years old, a retired tax consultant, a member of the Society for over 25 years and have the honour of being the elected honorary president

Paul Goodier: - Trustee

I am a retired rail worker and have had my plot for over 30 years .Living so close to the site I claim to have the biggest.back garden in Droylsden . I feel privileged to have contributed in a small way to the current and on going success of the society .

Helen Stephens: - Sustainability Officer

I’m a semi‑retired medical secretary and keen gardener who’s happiest with soil under my nails, fresh air in my lungs, and two dogs trying to supervise my every move. As the Allotment Sustainability Officer, I’m enthusiastic about all things eco‑friendly, whether I’m tending my plot or being dragged out for a walk. When I’m not practicing yoga, chasing after my grandson, or sneaking off to my caravan, I’m usually outdoors swimming, and I even swam with a wild dolphin last year, which definitely beats doing the ironing!
