Our bees initiative “we’ve been buzzy”
Our Society is exploring the possibility of introducing bees on a dedicated area of our site, and we’re pleased that Alan, who has a strong background in beekeeping, is leading this project. Having bees on-site would bring real benefits to our allotment community: improved pollination for fruit and vegetable crops, increased biodiversity, and a richer, more vibrant natural environment for everyone to enjoy. We’ll share more updates as the project develops and look forward to the positive impact this could bring to our plots and wildlife.

We are planning to create a new community space which includes a seating area for the community and a herb bed for visitors to help themselves. We also want to include an abundance table for plotters, where we can donate any excess vegetables, fruit, and other produce for plotters and visitors to enjoy. At the heart of this new safe and relaxing space will be a poppy emblem made from recycled red brick reclaimed from our allotment site. This feature will be both reflective and supportive of our longstanding allegiance to the Royal British Legion. The space will also include a “Book Nook” for the local community to sit, unwind, and enjoy a moment of calm.
There will be a few drawings on display in the Polyhub, but here is a rough sketch of our vision.
